So, becoming a Poshmark Ambassador was, truthfully, sort of an accident. I officially have been using the platform for over a year, and have since made a decent income. I now make sales at the very least every week. It all started because I noticed, a year ago, that I was accidentally hoarding way too many clothes.
In my first post about why I use Poshmark, I mentioned how quickly I realized it was the perfect site for someone like me. (HINT: If you’ve never used Poshmark, and need advice for how it works, check out that post first!) As a fashion blogger, and long time lover of clothes, I sifted through my stuff and knew that there was way too much that I just wasn’t using. Embarrassingly, some even still had tags on them! I would much rather make some of my money back, and let someone else enjoy the clothes that I wasn’t using. Now, it’s been over a year, and I’m a Poshmark Ambassador with 14 thousand followers and counting. Don’t be impressed with that number though! Gaining a following on Poshmark is far easier than Instagram or Twitter. Simply becoming an Ambassador gets you new followers everyday and, therefore, a larger amount of people who see your clothes and want to buy from you.
This is my new favorite J.Crew coat – I waited over a year to buy it! I bought it 60% off, and I told myself that, if I got it, I needed to make some room and sell some other clothes on Poshmark first. So I did! The sweater underneath is my L.L. Bean rag wool sweater, and a Christmas gift from my sister, Katie! Prescription sunglasses are coach.
The key to becoming an ambassador is simple. First and foremost, only post items people would genuinely want to buy. For example, I’ve literally seen people post used bras and underwear. Do not do that. No one wants to buy that. However, people are attracted to brand name items. If you have something that is gently used, like a J.Crew, Michael Kors or a Ralph Lauren top from a few seasons ago, definitely post it. If it’s in good condition, most people are happy to purchase gently used, clean, quality items!
In addition to making sure your products are on point, you need to hit a few Poshmark “stats” in order to hit ambassador status. I’ve posted my most recent stats below for reference. Community shares are when you “share” other Poshers items to your own feed. Most of my community shares are me sharing my friends and family’s items, but I also share items that I think my feed with love. For example, if I saw some NWT (New with Tags – Poshmark lingo!) Frye boots or a vintage J.Crew top, I would definitely share it to my feed. In contrast, self shares are when I share my own products. I often share my products to the “parties” Poshmark has 4 times a day. This is the type of thing I would do in a waiting room, or in the car if someone else is driving. Truthfully, this is the “mindless” part of it all that actually helps you make the $$$$. Remember, Poshmark is a social space, and participating in that portion of it is what helps you make sales more frequently!
Keeping your rating up is also an important piece. There’s always going to be that person that rates you lower because the item didn’t fit them like they wanted – but, in general, keeping it high is pretty simple. Always wrap your product in tissue, and put a personalized note in the box for the customer. Making it look neat and pretty really only takes five minutes, and it’s worth it for keeping your rating up and customers happy!
The rest is pretty self explanatory! You need to make a minimum of 15 sales, list 50 items, share “new” Poshers – all easy tasks once you get going! I knew I needed to purchase an item to become an ambassador, and I decided on a pair of silver Jack Rogers (NWT) that I had been eyeing. I always make sure to ship the day of or, if that isn’t possible, the next morning. Obviously there are exceptions – holiday weekends, etc. But, for the most part, I ship within 24 hours!
I never originally intended to become a Poshmark ambassador, but I’m so glad I did. Having the funds it provided me with helped me through the student teaching process, and I was able to clean out my space – win win!
