As a 23 year old new blogger, graduate student, and future teacher – I have plenty of resolutions for the New Year. Right now, there’s so much going on in life that it can be difficult to take a moment, and slow it down. Jake is always telling me I don’t know how to relax – I’m definitely not the type to sit in front of the TV for most of the day, even during vacation time. I want to make sure I’m taking care of myself in the new year, while also being more driven…I need to find more of a balance, which I think will actually work out well for me in 2018!
Plus, I’m starting out the year with this amazing new J.Crew jacket that my parents got me for Christmas. Isn’t it divine?! I literally never want to wear anything else. It has a great weight to it, and really keeps me warm, but is also probably the most beautiful coat I’ve ever owned. I got mine in the heather fire red, which goes perfectly with this wine colored Old Navy winter hat. Sadly, I can’t find the link to the hat, but they should still have it in stores! Of course, I paired the look with my L.L. Bean Gortex bean boots, a New England Staple. The gloves are also J.Crew Button Cuff Gloves, in the Heather Camel color. They’re great, because the finger tips on both the thumb and index finger have slits, making it really easy to use my phone if I need to! The sunglasses in the photos below are from Mallory Shaw, who I actually found on Instagram! Here’s the link to the sunglasses.
Here’s a list of my seven resolutions for the New Year. Let me know if they’re anything like yours!
- MORE BLOGGING: Considering the blog is fairly new, I think I’ve been pretty on top of this. However, with my full time job and five classes this past semester, sometimes content got out slower than I wanted it to. I’m looking forward to being multiple posts ahead in 2018, as well as branching out with more partnerships and brands I love! I always want to make sure I’m being honest with you guys, and really sharing products/brands that I personally use.
- ZUMBA: Exercise has fallen by the way side in 2017. I blame everything on my crazy semester, but it really was super difficult to find the time. Starting in January, I’ll be doing Zumba at least twice a week after work. I want to get back to feeling healthy and strong, and I think that will further motivate me to do everything else I want to do. Plus, Zumba is wicked fun! I took Zumba classes at NYU, and it really helps me refocus and is always worth it.
- GRADUATE: I’m set to graduate in December 2018 and, I have to say, I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll be completing my student teaching in the Fall, and I can’t wait to get started on getting myself back to New York City full time. I spent my undergraduate years at NYU, so I got really used to living in Manhattan full time. Upon graduating, my goal is to find a job there and get an apartment. So, this one is really a *goal within a goal* !
- GIVE BACK: I’m really looking for ways to tie blogging with giving back to the community. Again, with this being so new, I want to delve into a little bit of everything. Being so involved with children and education, I would love to head in the direction of something like that. I know there are a lot of students who are foster children needing backpacks or duffle bags to carry their personal items in. I would love to organize something like this when there’s more of a following to contribute. Anyone interested or know a way to help? If this is a new topic for you, check out this link to learn more. This video is initially how I learned about the issue.
- EAT BETTER: Is there anyone who doesn’t have this on their resolutions list? I’m a FOODIE. I love food. I follow food instagrams. Dessert Instagrams! I like pasta and bread and ice cream. I’m not terrible but, truthfully, I could do so much better. I have done well in the past but, again, I’ve been ignoring that part of my brain that says “You really shouldn’t eat this” way too often. Along with exercise, I just want to focus on making healthier choices and saving that large amount of sugar for a little less often. Jake and I both love to eat though so this one is always tricky….plus, I just really love to eat large amounts of white rice. This is a *serious* issue for me.
- SAVE MONEY: Again, this is probably on a lot of resolution lists. I’m not necessarily a big spender, but, as a fashion blogger, you do find yourself needing to spend money on the brand. I also go back and forth into the city a ton, and those metro north train tickets really pile up. Not to mention books for school…the list goes on. I’m not much of an impulsive buyer though – sometimes I eye an item for weeks, or even months, depending on how much it is. I’m definitely thoughtful with what I buy, but I need to be even more thoughtful now with what I actually put away and save. With a future apartment coming (and, you know, life.) I’ll eventually need to afford a down payment and all that jazz. So yeah, this is a big one!
- DOWN TIME: Somehow, with all of this, I need to find time to take Jake’s advice and chill out. Jake suggested meditation, but I have always really struggled with that. So, we’ll see. I definitely need to start small. Right now, going to bed at night is my favorite way to relax! I’m hoping to read more books and catch up on some shows I really love.
