This past weekend, Jake was in Connecticut, and we spent a lot of time walking around. We are walkers. Generally, whether in the city or the suburbs, we spend a great deal of time walking new areas and just chatting with each other. We love seeing new areas, or revisiting old ones, and it’s when we get a lot of one on one time to just talk through what’s going on with each of us.
But, honestly, it’s been wicked cold. WHERE IS MY SUMMER?! We’ve been walking regardless, but it’s way less miserable during the warmer seasons. I’ve been seriously craving summer, so much so that I actually decided to visit the adorable ice cream shop J. Fosters in my winter coat (It’s J. Crew by the way, and you can find more details on how perfect it is in this post!) If you’ve never been to J. Foster’s, you have to if you’re ever in Hartford County. It’s in a historical little town called Simsbury, and is a family owned business. We got there on the second day they were open, so the ice cream was so fresh and delicious. Obviously, I got Mint Chocolate Chip, but I also really recommend the black raspberry!
We spent a good deal of time walking by some of Simsbury’s older houses. One of my favorite parts about this town is, along the main road, the sidewalks are lined with brick. It’s picture-perfect against the colonial houses!
We also spent a lot of time walking through Windsor. About a week ago, we were walking in the same area, and came across an adorable dog named Jack. We called the owner and, it turns out, she owns this perfect little coffee shop called the bean. Finding Jack made us realize we needed to stop in, so Saturday morning we got our coffee there instead of our usual Starbucks. I am so happy we did! She was so sweet and gave us lattes (and a delicious blueberry muffin!) on the house for saving Jack. I plan on going back ASAP, and can’t wait to keep supporting our local Connecticut businesses! Definitely stop by if you can, it has such a great vibe.
I can’t wait for our warmer walks, but walks in any weather are some of my favorites parts of my week! <3 Where do you love walking during the warmer season? Comment below!
