Why I Use Poshmark

I started using Poshmark back in January and, honestly, I was just casually checking in on it from time to time after making my first few uploads. I actually first heard about Poshmark from their commercial (go figure) and wanted to try it out because I had a couple bags that, literally, still the tags on them. I ended up selling pretty quickly and figured, hey, I might as well upload some of my nicer items.

Side note: I bought the silver Jacks I’m wearing here on Poshmark! Such a good purchase, only $60 (AN AMAZING PRICE) and in perfect condition! They were NWT (New with Tags – Poshmark lingo!)

Since then, I now have over a hundred listings, and I actually think the site is pretty cool. For starters, for someone like me who loves loves loves loves clothes, it’s a great way to clean out my closet from time to time. I buy clothes pretty frequently, for the blog and myself, and this is great a way to make sure gently used items are recycled and used! It’s great for the environment and my bank account.

I ended up making a lot of listings recently because, after doing a lot of shopping on my recent vacation to Maine with my family, I realized I was in desperate need of a closet clean out. I had WAY too many shoes (I know, I know…how can that be?) and tons of shirts, some still embarrassingly never worn, hanging nicely my closet. I knew I needed the space, and my mom and I took literally three hours to sort through it all. The nicer brand name items ended up on Poshmark, all gently used, some never worn at all. I also made a donate pile, filled with like-new blankets, warm coats, gently used clothes and barely worn sneakers. I always try to make sure I’m donating items that might be the most needed!

If you’ve never used Poshmark before, it’s very much a social space. For example, there are “parties” everyday with different themes. These parties are basically just time periods where sellers can share specific items. For example, whenever it’s a preppy party, most of my closet is shareable and I try to share my items. Other times, there are more general parties (those ones are usually the latest in the day), such as “cool summer wear” or “fall favorites.” Poshers follow other poshers that have similar styles or simply just to get themselves some shares.

When selling on Poshmark, I always try to wrap the item in tissue paper, tie it in brown string, and write a personal thank you card to the buyer. It really adds a nice touch, and makes it all that more personal. There are also free priority boxes you can use at the post office and you don’t need to pay for the shipping – the buyer does, and Poshmark sends you the shipping label via email once the purchase it complete. I can’t stress enough how wicked easy it is to not only sell your items, but ship them too!

If a buyer likes your item, they may write you a “love note” and give you a five star review! I’ve made about 20-25 sales so far and some pretty kind love notes have come my way! However, just recently, I had an unhappy customer and I was, at first, a little bummed. I had done my whole routine of a personal card and pretty packaging, and I ended up getting a 1 star review because she was unhappy that the item did not fit her. I had thought this was pretty unfair, but, going with the customer is usually right policy, I figured I just need to be more descriptive from now on! Live and learn! 🙂

Lastly, Poshmark is a great tool for me right now because it helps me clean out my wardrobe for clothing for the blog, which is what I love most, and every cent I make from poshmark goes directly into my savings. I’m looking at the money I make as extra cash for whatever I may need in the future. I’m starting student teaching in the Fall, and will have to work part time after a full days worth of teaching unpaid, so I’ll need all the help I can get with my savings account!

If you sign up for Poshmark with my invite code, you get $5.00 towards your first Poshmark purchase. (Full disclosure – you use this code, we get some money too! Win win!) CODE: DANIMURD
