Weekends definitely don’t look like they used to. Before the pandemic, Jake and I were traveling almost every weekend. Whether it was to visit our parents, to Boston, taking the train into NYC…wherever. It got to the point that, when I actually had a free weekend, I didn’t even know what to do with it. I’m a big planner, so obviously these slower weekends are a bit out of the norm for me. But, honestly, isn’t everything out of the norm for everyone right now…?
First, there’s clearly not a ton to do. We can’t go to a restaurant or see our friends, so we’ve been trying to make sure we are walking a ton and even just driving around to get a change of scenery. Actually: one thing I’ve appreciated more than I thought I ever would? Drive thrus. I am loving Starbucks on the weekends. The line is absurdly long right now because literally everyone is going and I totally know that it *logically* does not make sense to waste time in the line when there is coffee at home. But, why not? We aren’t going anywhere else and it’s fun to drive around and chat while we drink delicious coffee. I’ve been getting a venti caramel cloud macchiato literally every single time. We’ve also been watching a lot of TV (who hasn’t?) I’ve been loving Designated Survivor…I’m only on season 2, so no spoilers! We also watched Tiger King and The Circle in the last few weeks.
Jacket is L.L. Bean and sweater is Old Navy. My jeans are new and favorites of mine – they are Gap. I got the petite! Shoes are Rothy’s – they are perfect and so worth it.
I’m also trying to dress up a bit on the weekends. I’m finding that doing my hair and makeup is pretty therapeutic for me and it gives me a sense of normalcy. The only thing I still haven’t committed to is wearing my contacts. Honestly, they’re pretty expensive and I wear dailies. I would rather save them for when I’m actually seeing people and going to work or going out. Anyone else feel this way who lives the contact life…..?
I’ve also been working on my needlepoint on the weekends. It has been ridiculously good for me. If there’s anything I’m grateful for, it’s finding a hobby in all this that slows things down a bit. I think the hardest part about all of this is not having an end date. It’s tough to try to adjust to a new normal when you don’t really know how long it will last. I just try to remember that it’s all about trying to stay healthy and keep others healthy. There’s too many people hurt by this – it’s too much and too sad.
What are you doing to try to have fun on the weekends during the pandemic?
I’ve wanted to start needlepoint but I have too many other crafts going on at once!
