Exploring Charlestown

This past Memorial Day weekend, Jake and I experienced a much needed getaway. Jake and I, although together often, are usually around other people whether it be family or friends (who we love!!) in CT or New York, so it was really nice to have time where it was just the two of us for a few days straight. We stayed in the cutest little house in Charlestown, Rhode Island, which was simply perfect for our needs.

We drove directly after work on Friday, and were able to eat dinner at The Cove – this restaurant really felt like it was where all the locals ate, and I really enjoyed the chicken marsala. (I’m allergic to shellfish – so, sadly, I avoid a lot of the seafood!) Honestly, shortly after the restaurant, we headed back and I fell right to sleep. It was such a long week!

Saturday was our sunniest day, and we spent the majority of our morning at the beach. I have to say, it was just perfect. I ate pretty much an entire box of Cheezits and laid in the sun. Sadly, I got a minor sun burn on the back of my knees, but it has already healed and will not happen again! As someone who has really fair, and sensitive, skin, I need to make sure I keep an eye on this!

Ralph Lauren Striped Tee purchased at Marshall’s, Prescription Coach Sunglasses, and my LL. Bean Tote that I have had for years (Thanks to a gift card from my Aunt Sandy and Uncle Bob!) They don’t carry this one with the leather handles anymore, but I am seriously eyeing their new signature boat & tote with the rope handles – plus, you know it’ll last! After the beach, Jake and I walked around Westerly, RI where we happened to stop by the Westerly Art Festival in Wilcox Park. I ended up purchasing this gorgeous map of 1800’s Deer Isle Maine, where my family is from, as well as a beautiful print of a painting of the Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI. Couldn’t be happier with my purchases, and I loved being able to support local art. I also popped into Rereads bookshop, where I was able to purchase three gently used chapter books for my future classroom. The woman who owned the shop was so thoughtful, and gave me a discount for being a future teacher – really just the nicest woman and most welcoming of places!

This bathing suit is my favorite of all time (It’s J. Crew!) I have it in Navy and a hot pink color from a previous season. It fits so well!

For dinner, we ate at The Bridge, which is where I ate almost exactly a year ago at my older sister’s bachelorette weekend. I opted to go there again, and was pleasantly surprised when they sat us right by the water. It was the perfect date night, and we both loved our meals. I got the chicken pot pie, which was a little different because it was biscuits with the makings of the chicken pot pie around it (yum), and Jake got a steak, which he devoured. All in all, Saturday was the perfect night.

Sunday, there was a ton of rain. I don’t know my I didn’t bring my rainy day essentials, but I was pretty much soaked the entirety of our time walking around Newport. Jake had never really experienced Newport, and he fell hard for it’s colonial history and overall perfect charm. Honestly, I would move there in a heartbeat! All the quintessentials of a perfect city.

We took an audio tour of The Elms and, being the history person I am, I fell in love with it. (I should’ve eaten beforehand though. Oops.) I had an emergency meal at Pasta Beach where I got the regular spaghetti which, to be honest, hit the spot. Yum!

I can’t stress enough how much of a perfect trip it was. Back to reality, but looking forward to the next trip!

What did you do for Memorial Day Weekend?
