This past weekend, Jake and I drove to Maine to visit the summer house of my best friend, Pj! My own family vacations are in Maine every summer so, for a girl that’s allergic to lobster, I know Maine pretty well. York, Maine is such a quintessential little beach town, and it’s always so relaxing to spend a weekend there.
The three of us spent Saturday lounging on the sand and climbing rocks on Short Sands Beach. Definitely more crowded during the summer months, but we didn’t have a hard time finding a spot for our chairs and blanket. To be honest, I haven’t just sat in a lounge chair on the beach in ages, so it was just simply nice to sit there and chat with two of the people I’m closest to!
If you’re looking for food nearby, check out Surfside right by the beach. I personally opt for a grilled cheese and onion rings, but there’s burgers, hot dogs, lobster rolls – you name it! Perfect beach food, super convenient, and right next to the Fun-O-Rama (An arcade I hear a lot of the kids spend a ton of time in…!) Surfside gives you everything in a cardboard box that we always carry right over to our blanket. Delish!
For homemade ice cream or taffy, check out Goldenrod right in view from the boardwalk. If you’re looking for something that isn’t restaurant style, I also love Wicked Good Ice Cream just a short walk away. Both places have a great Mint Chocolate Chip! 😉
At the edge of the beach, there’s a lot of rocks for people to just climb on and enjoy the view. When walking along the rocky edge of the beach, we saw these kids selling lemonade above the ledge. We climbed up to the top and bought a couple of cups from them by reaching over the rocks. Too cute!
Sunglasses are coach, button down is Tommy Hilfiger from Marshall’s (this one and this one are the most similar right now), and pink bathing suit is an old J. Crew color but they still sell the suit. I have it in navy as well – the neon flamingo color they sell now is so similar to this one! Shorts, as always, are the Denim J. Crew Merrill Wash (again…)
We also had a blast just hanging out at the house at night. Do any of you play Phase 10? It’s definitely my favorite card game. Pj, Jake and I played it for the first time when we went to Ireland back in 2014. We’ve been playing it ever since and, Saturday night, we decided to play a round – well, Phase 10 is a game of many rounds. Let’s just say I’m a pretty sore loser when it comes to the Phase 10 game. Especially when I was winning the majority of the time…
