Like many Americans, I spent last Saturday rejoicing, crying happy tears, that Biden was officially the President Elect. He not only won the popular vote, but he also won the electoral college. It was exactly the pick-me-up many of us needed for 2020, and I could not be happier that this is the direction the country is headed in. I finally feel a sense of relief that the pandemic will be taken seriously, teachers will be heard (a First Lady who is an educator!) and climate change with be taken properly addressed.
The next morning after we heard, Jake went and picked up the New York Times. It was amazing to see “Biden Wins” on the front page, and it’s something we plan on framing and keeping forever. It was a historic weekend, and one that I don’t plan on ever forgetting. I’ve already had so many conversations with friends that start with “Where were you when you heard?!” because so many of us weren’t expecting to hear anything until at least that evening. It had been such a waiting game, that it honestly took be by surprise as I was lounging on my couch and Jake was making lunch in the kitchen. We screamed (I’m sure our whole floor heard us!) and I called my whole family. It was a truly joyful day.
It’s been on my mind ever since. Not to mention, we have a Vice President who is a WOMAN! That alone, makes me emotional. A woman who is both African American and Indian American. I mean, how can you not love that? Plus, she’s smart. She deserves it.
So am I looking for to Inauguration Day? Yes, yes I am! I am looking ahead to a better, kinder, future for our country.
