Homecoming 2019

Last night was our annual “Homecoming” party thrown by my best friend Pj. Every year, we have all of our closest friends under one roof to kick off the holiday season. What’s particularly fun about this party is, every year, we vote for a Homecoming King and Queen. We’ve (so far) never had any repeats, and some of us end up spending much of the night campaigning to gather votes.  Around 10:00, the nominees are announced – and then at midnight the King and Queen are officially crowned. Despite my best efforts I, once again, did not win Homecoming Queen – we always joke that maybe 2050 will be my year. They’ll never let me win it! I’m always a nominee though – someday! 😉

My pink sweater is J.Crew – so is my leopard print vest, but they sadly don’t carry it anymore. However, they do have it in a coat version now!

Last year, I campaigned about a month or so leading up to the actual event. My friends decided it would be way more hilarious if I did not win – so I think it’s becoming a yearly tradition of me not winning? We’ll see…this year, Pj’s cousin Alexis won queen, which she 100% deserves. <3

Jokes aside, it’s one of my favorite nights of the year with my friends. The party has really grown over the years – more friends seem to come every year. When we all lived in the same area, we used to do it the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and this is the first year we finally moved it to a Friday. It was so easy to do it on Tuesday when we were all in college coming home for break, but we’ve since realized it’s no longer possible with everyone living in all different places and working leading up to the holiday.

It’s honestly pretty wonderful to have this party to look forward to each year. I see Pj pretty frequently, especially for living in different cities, but so many other friends I feel like I have hardly seen this year. It’s hard to not feel busy all the time with work, and weekends filling up so quickly. It’s really nice to have a day each year where I know we will all be together.

It’s also funny how much our lives have changed in the last decade, but I think it’s pretty amazing to see where everyone is in their lives right now with work or school. I know this party will keep changing as our lives change too – like I said, more friends will continue to join throughout the years, and that’s awesome.

Happy Homecoming, everyone!
