So, with the current state of things, Jake and I have been obviously trying to avoid public spaces. We don’t go out shopping, we haven’t gone out to eat and we keep at a social distance with others. We feel it’s our responsibility to help keep the people we love safe, so we are trying our best to avoid more pubic places.
Recently, we decided to try Instacart instead of going to the grocery store because we thought that we might be better off that way. I didn’t realize until we had actually done it that Instacart is similar to Uber Eats in the sense where someone who works for Instacart goes to that store, buys your food and then delivers it to you. For some reason I thought it was through the grocery store workers but, obviously, that didn’t make a difference! If anything, it made it easier, because we would get text messages when an item was out and we had an option to replace it with something else. We got some salmon to make that night and Jake literally made one of the best salmon’s I have ever tasted…
Overall, it went pretty well! We got all the produce we asked for and were able to replace items easily when it was necessary. Some things were out in the store but that was totally to be expected! The only real fluke was that we ordered a pound of chicken and got…well…FIVE pounds of chicken. I pulled it out of the bag and I was like “Um…Jake…what is this…?” It was an unexpected expense, but we decided to just go with it because it’s chicken and I’m sure we will use it eventually if we freeze it. Jake’s really into cooking lately, and trying new dishes, so ultimately we didn’t mind. However, definitely pay more attention to what’s being added to your cart as replacements than we did!
What is really great about Instacart is that we literally ordered it the night before and got it the next morning without a hitch. It made us feel safer to get grocery delivery and, honestly, most of the other services had too long of a wait time with everything going on. They were also really good about updating you about arrival time, making it so easy to plan our day. It all went pretty seamlessly (minus the chicken – but that was possibly our fault for hitting “yes” to another chicken option….) and gave us a ton of peace of mind.
Have you used Instacart or another grocery delivery service?
