Life Update: We Are Moving!

Well – it’s official. We are moving! Jake and I having been waiting to move in to our first apartment for a while. We’ve officially been dating for 7 years (I know!) and are sooooo looking forward to having our own place. We totally would’ve done it sooner but there were a few bumps in the road! He was living in NYC with his roommate, and long time friend, and I was going to graduate school at the University of Hartford. So, for the past few years, I have been living at home, saving money, and waiting it out. I can’t tell you how many times we have gone for walks and planned out what we wanted in our first place and how much longer we needed to wait to get there. I honestly can’t even comprehend that we are literally moving in tomorrow.

If you read the blog, you probably already knew I was living at home and honestly, upon reflection, I totally recommend it for college graduates. For starters, it helped me actually save the money I needed. I didn’t have the financial burden of paying rent and was able to put the majority of what I was making away. Plus, I got a ton of family time, which was awesome, and I’m honestly feeling a bit emotional about it all! My parents were unbelievably helpful and supportive, even on my toughest days, and I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done and continue to do for me. :’)

Skirt is Madewell, and my new favorite skirt of all time. My shirt is gap, and is so comfy but lightweight for summer! Apple Watch Band is off of Etsy and is so worth the money – it’s real leather and great quality. My sweatshirt in the cover shot is from L.L. Bean and is literally the perfect beach sweatshirt.

Buttttt, I totally know that I’ll be here all the time. I’m not going to be that far from my family, an hour a half really, and I know that I’ll be seeing them sooooo often. However, I’ve become accustomed to my morning coffee with my Dad before work and my afternoon coffeee with my Mom after work – so I’m feeling a bit sappy about that. I’m also, obviously, going to miss seeing my two pups every day. I know Gracie, my Portuguese Water Dog, is getting older and things are more difficult for her – so I try to spend as much time with the two of them as I can! It was also a weird feeling leaving my job on Friday. I had wonderful coworkers these past three years and was sad to say goodbye to my students, but I know in my heart that it was the right time to move on to the next thing!

Despite feeling a little sad about closing this chapter, I am beyond thrilled to be starting the new one. We will still be living in Connecticut, but are moving to Southern Connecticut which is so much closer to New York City. I have a ton of childhood and NYU friends living close by and my sister Sam won’t be that far away at school either. I have a feeling Sam and I will be hanging out even more often than we do now (which is literally all the time…) Plus, I just love the building we chose and am so excited about the furniture we’ve gotten. I can’t wait to show you all as we get everything set up! There has been a lot of decision making these last few months, but I am so excited with everything we have chosen. Between work ending and the move coming, my blog has been seriously lacking. However, I think with my new space, I already am feeling more motivation than ever to get material out!

We ended up choosing Southern, CT for a lot of reasons. For starters: We love Connecticut. That’s really #1. BUT, it’s also so close to our favorite city and the location is a lot less rural than Northern, CT. We also got a lot more apartment for our money than we ever would have in Manhattan. I also realized that, as much as I love New York City, we do have a complicated relationship – and I think our apartment will be the perfect happy medium of being there whenever I want while also having a lovely space to come back to.

When did you get your first apartment?
