The weather has been so absurdly warm for January that I’ve actually been wearing my mules around town rather than my booties! Honestly, hoping it gets colder soon, since it’s January! There’s been so much looming around the internet about lofty goals everyone has for the new year. I’ve had years where I made intense lists of everything I wanted to accomplish, and I’ve had years (like last year) where my main goal was to post four times a month on my blog. Obviously, I’m hoping for even more posts this year per month, but I ended the year feeling really proud that I stuck to something that was, ultimately, for me!
My goals aren’t as specific but I’ve realized that I’m enjoying making more time to do things for me. I’ve been reading a lot more – being an educator, I have started reading more books my students enjoy, which ultimately makes me better at book recommendations for the kids. I personally couldn’t get enough of The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley….I read the sequel over break, and it was fantastic! I also started reading The Book of Gutsy Women by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton – Sam got it for me for my birthday, and I’ve been loving the short stories on women throughout history. It’s empowering, and I love how they touch on many accomplished women that I, sadly, had never heard of before!
Sweater is J.Crew Factory – sadly, they are out of this super cozy Buffalo Check Sweater. Such a bummer because it’s soooo unbelievably soft! Bag is Old J.Crew – however the Madewell tote is so similar and such a classic. My mules are Madewell and amazing – I wear them all the time! I love that they go with everything and are actually comfortable. Jeans are Gap! The jacket in my bag is last years version of this tweed coat by J.Crew – like I said, it was super warm!
I’ve also started doodling more with the pencil that Jake got me for my iPad. I’ve thought about including some of them on the blog – or at least sharing them with you guys! I’ve used my doodles for the “highlight” section of my instagram, and I think it really helps personalize my page a bit more. I also find it super relaxing. Sometimes I just search “things to draw” on google just so I can doodle something up on my iPad. It’s not for everyone, and I honestly didn’t even realize how much I enjoyed drawing (I was never into arts as a kid – not super crafty!) but it’s been really great for me.
I also think “me time” involves me taking the time to devote to a more stable skin care routine and, as I mentioned in the last post, trying not to give in to my feeling of “always needing a plan.” I think it serves me well at work, and I’ll always want plans, but making sure I have a free weekend every month or so might be helpful! Will it happen…? We’ll see! 😉
Jake and I have also been working on our own creative project for the blog – still not ready for reveal, but I can’t wait to ultimately share with you guys later this year!
What have you been doing for yourself lately?
