Needlepoint Update

So, at this point, I have been needlepointing regularly for the entirety of the pandemic. I feel like I’ve learned a lot, and have gotten a bit faster, and I’m realizing that it’s really a good way for me to calm my mind and just think. It also gives me an opportunity to be creative, and my mind is already wandering to Christmas with gifts I can make for this year and years to come. I am so intrigued by making an ornament, it is 100% my next project!

At this point, I’ve really only mastered the basic continental stitch. I would love to learn some more complex stitches but, seeing as I’ve mostly just taught myself from the internet, I feel like it’s going to take some additional time to master those.

Right now, I’m in the process of this Bean Boot canvas below. I really love it and have been so torn as to how I want to finish it. At first, I though I might want to turn it into a Christmas pillow with a green background and a red border. However, upon further reflection, I think I would prefer a basic white background and framing. I’m thinking about testing out some new stitches on the background of this one, but am a bit nervous it won’t look how I picture it in my head!

I bought this canvas from Stitch Stash – here it the link!

Now that I’ve opted not to turn it into a Christmas pillow, I’m thinking I will pair this canvas with the striped tee Sarah Fitz Canvas that I’m starting after the Bean Boot. I think they will look lovely, both framed, stacked above and below each other. I’m looking forward to adding the pieces as a duo to my living room!

Also! I finally finished my first canvas – the American Flag Sailboat above! The bean boot is moving along much faster now that I know what I am doing. I am planning on adding a couple more rows of white thread along the top and bottom of the piece so that I can easily frame it. It’s much smaller than the bean boot, so I am thinking of adding it to one of my shelves.

Anyone else gain a hobby during the pandemic?
