Faeve Plant Therapies mantra is all about meditation, positivity and creating a stress free environment for you and your family. Personally, I’ve always struggled a lot with meditation. So for those of you who are ‘eh’ about that sort of stuff, I totally get it. Jake, however, really enjoys it and is always telling me I need to try the Headspace App – he thinks I’ll be really into it if I try it! We’ll see… Anyone else struggle getting involved in mediation? I just always feel like I have to move around!
In terms of Mindfulness: I’m totally there. I was lucky enough to take the Science of Happiness course that NYU offered my junior year of college, and I stand by the fact that I feel like it completely changed sense of direction. Prior to the course, I was feeling pretty down – I had changed my major from Musical Theater to Media, Culture & Communications (looking back – best decision ever for me!) and was feeling a little lost about where to go next. And, as magical as New York City is, it can become a really lonely place when you don’t know your spot in it. Being such a planner, I was starting to feel a bit anxious about the future and what I really wanted.
However, at one point in the duration of the class, we were asked to write a gratitude letter. I chose my mom, and realized what I valued most of all was those I loved and cared for. It sounds suuuuuperrr cheesy, but creating a direct focus on gratitude on a daily basis really made me feel just better. Plus, she really loved receiving the letter and knowing how I felt! Even though I still didn’t have an exact solution, I was able to recognize that, really, everything was still okay. I had people who not only supported me in anything I wanted to do, but loved me unconditionally. When you really put the effort in to remember that on a daily basis, it’s hard not to feel happy.
I’ve always journaled, so in order to incorporate that feeling more regularly, I started ending my entries with what and who I was most grateful for. It began to give me a deeper appreciation for life and them. In class, we always talked about having a “flow” state of mind, and to think about what gets you in that zone. For some, it’s meditation (and maaaaaybe it could be for me too….) Truthfully though, I think it can be anything from singing in your car to writing a blog post. We all need an activity that we can allow ourselves to be completely involved in – totally immersed, without any distraction.
