I am finally getting around to writing about my Memorial Day weekend! To be honest, I had been looking forward to this long weekend for months. This is the second year that Jake and I booked this adorable house in Rhode Island, and it’s such a perfect getaway for the two of us. We spent the whole weekend relaxing, and it could not have come at a better time. Right now, there’s a ton going on (plenty I’ll be sharing soon!) and the busybusybusybusy buzzing of the work week came to a much needed pause.
We started off the weekend packing snacks and heading over to the beach. Renting the house comes with access to a private beach, so it’s a nice way to get away from crowds and just relax alongside the water. I wore my new favorite denim shorts by J.Crew over my scoop back bathing suit (I have it in “intense pink” and “navy”) both days on the beach. These shorts have the perfect amount of stretch to them, and I always love a high rise. I wore this soft L.L. Bean hoodie over the suit – it was a bit windy on the beach, and I’m super sensitive to burning. It kept my skin safe and was wicked comfortable! Sandals are, naturally, Jack Rogers and bag is L.L. Bean – sadly, no longer sold with the leather straps. Of course, I’m drinking my vacation favorite caffeine, Dave’s Coffee.
We also had two delicious dinners – we went back this year to the Bridge Restaurant in downtown Westerly, right after having a nice walk through the art show in Wilcox Park. This is my third time eating here and I honestly think I’ll come back every year – their chicken pot “pie” is unique and delicious. Rather than a pie crust, it is served with biscuits on top! Jake always orders the steak, which I tend to steal from as well…. 😉 I wore a white Gap 3/4 length sleeve top that scooped in the back and my brand new denim mini skirt by Madewell. I would definitely consider this skirt to be mildly outside my comfort zone – but, I honestly couldn’t be happier with it. Now that I’ve worn it once, I think I’l be wearing it the entire summer. It’s comfortable and makes me feel good!
We also ate dinner at The Breachway Grill – this was unplanned, and we were really unsure of where to eat that night, but I am so happy we chose this place. The food was so good, and the pasta was clearly homemade. I ordered the tuscan chicken and could not have been happier with my meal. Both nights were absolutely perfect! I wore my new favorite shorts by J.Crew – I bought four pairs of them in different colors because they are unbelievably comfortable. They feel like athletic shorts, but are super cute and flattering. I paired it with this tee , these Jacks Rogers (I purchased the blue pair at a sample sale – but you can create the exact same pair with Custom Jacks!) and my favorite Toino Abel bag made in Portugal. I highly recommend investing in one of these bags – they wear well and are stunning!
In short, I truly had the best weekend with Jake. It was so nice to have a mini vacation with just the two of us, even just for a couple days. I hope we continue this tradition for years to come!
What did you do this past Memorial Day Weekend?
