Themed Valentine’s Day Gifts are the Best

Valentine’s Day is less than a week away! What is everyone doing? Jake and I are post-poning our celebration (since it’s a Wednesday…) and celebrating at Carmine’s in NYC the following weekend!

I find Valentine’s Day gifts to, honestly, be the hardest ones to buy. Birthday’s and Christmas are easier because, for me, there’s less pressure to stick with the overall theme of the holiday. Typically, I just sort of buy what I think Jake is going to want most! Which, I guess, I should probably also do for Valentine’s Day. But there’s just so much pressure to be cute/romantic/yadda yadda yadda.

SO, I’m going to share with you a few things I’ve done in the past to tie together a good Valentine’s Day present. First off, Jake and I always hand make our own cards for every holiday. It’s a tradition we started a few years ago, and I think it’s paid off wonderfully.

However, if we don’t make our own card for some reason, it’s because we found a *perfect* card from a seller on Etsy. Jake gave me the card below for Christmas this year from English Rose Cards on Etsy and, being the Harry Potter fan I am, I can’t think of anything more perfect.

Basically, know your audience. A few years ago, for Valentine’s day, I went with the whole “Relaxing” theme, and got Jake a pair of L.L Bean Slippers, a bathrobe, and a bathbomb from Lush. They don’t have the bathrobe I got him a few years ago, but I chose a black fleece one from Nordstrom that looks just like it. As far as bathbombs go: careful what you choose for a first-timer! I think this rocket science bathbomb is the perfect Valentine’s gift for a guy, and it has lemon as its main ingredient – so nothing too fancy!

Sometimes, I decide to cater to Jake’s inner nerd: two years ago, I decided to make his gift Star Wars themed – and I went completely all out. I got him a mini Star Wars lego set, Star Wars cereal (which I don’t think is available anymore…), a light saber, a mug, and an Etsy crochet BB-8, which is the perfect size for his desk! I also got him this framed Star Wars poster for his birthday from Society 6, but it would be the perfect add on to any Star Wars themed Valentine gift! I even went for this Etsy (shop is called: beeisforbear) BB-8 Valentine, which obviously went perfectly with the whole gift.

Honestly, I really love nerdy personalized gifts. Once, Jake got me the entire Harry Potter set in hardcover (first editions!) and it was one of the most thoughtful Valentine gifts I’ve ever received. So, seriously, give in to it 😉

Another year, I bought Jake a Clinique for Men Deep Cleaning brush. He still loves it! It’s small, and you can use it in the shower. I paired it with the Clinique for Men Essential’s kit, so he could try out each of their products and see what he likes best for his skin. Of course, even when running with a facial theme, you MUST include candy in a Valentine’s day gift. Jake and I really love Brookside Chocolate covered pomegranates, so we usually go that route when it comes to gift giving. Plus, even the bag adds a nice red touch, don’t you think? Oh, and always go for the big bag…that little one is never enough for us, especially since we’re usually sharing a bag!

For Jake and I, this is our sixth Valentine’s Day as a couple. Obviously, I can’t spoil the gift for this year (Weirdly enough, he reads the blog!), but I’m hoping my theme this year will be just as fun. 🙂
